our alignment sticks

Heritage of Hickory

Other than being synonymous with the heritage of golf, hickory provides all the characteristics required for superior golf shafts. Strength, flexibility, and durability are why hickory wood was chosen over other hardwoods such as ash or hazel. With the advent of steel shafts, and later graphite or composite shafts, the use of hickory in golf is mostly a thing-of-the-past. We want to honour that heritage. This is why we make our alignment sticks out of hickory wood. With the great advances in golfing technology, let us honour the past, while moving into the future.

Laser Engraving

Once we have our hickory dowels cut to length, we begin our laser engraving process. Engraving the OVERDOSE GOLF name, and your custom personalization. We do several passes with the laser to ensure there is a solid debossed look to the alignment sticks.

Staining and Sealing

After the alignment sticks are engraved, it's time to stain and seal the raw hickory dowels. We apply multiple coats of stain and sealer to ensure that they not only look beautiful, but that they are weatherproofed for maximum longevity.

Painting

Once the final coat of stain and sealer are dry, it’s time to paint. We apply the colours that you choose to truly make your alignment sticks unique. Check out our gallery to see what kind of colour schemes we have worked on in the past.

Surface Coating

When the paint is dry, we do a final surface coating. We lacquer the alignment sticks to give them that final protective barrier from the weather, and any scuffs and scrapes. When the lacquer dries, we are left with a beautiful glossy finish, sure to catch anyone's eye.

Finishing Touches

Before we can call our production complete, we apply metal tips to the ends of each alignment stick. On the top we apply a rounded end, and on the bottom we apply a pointed end. The rounded end gives the alignment sticks a polished finish. The pointed end allows us to insert the alignment sticks into the turf for swing plane drills etc.

The Human Touch

Due to the nature of handmade craftsmanship, each set of alignment sticks we produce are unique. With the use of natural material, the wood grain will tell a story of its own. The slight variations in staining, painting and assembly, no two alignment sticks are exactly alike. Choosing our alignment sticks will truly add a one-of-a-kind piece to your golf bag.
